What Really Matters?

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness." 2 Peter 3:10-12 (NIV)

Peter is encouraging all of the scattered believers by reminding them that this world is not the priority. When the Lord returns everything will melt away and He will establish a new heaven and a new earth.

Yet, the world still takes priority over God's will. His Word and His church are not priority one. Relationships, careers, plans, and personal gain rule our lives.

It is so true that God is not priority that one simply can look at the decisions that have been made by believers in this economy. When times get hard financially the first thing to cut is giving first fruits to God. When we get busy the first thing to cut out is time in His Word and with His people.

What really matters when we are looking at how things are going to be when Christ returns?

God is what matters above all things. He is first and everything else is last.
